Level 43: Leonard J Paul (Beep, Retro City Rampage)
Leonard J Paul wrote the score for Beep: A Documentary History of Game Sound. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend it. There’s a giant list of people in the film who pioneered one aspect of game sound or another. Some of them are composers, known for their brilliant music; others are inventors of technology that changed how game audio works.
And Leonard’s music is fantastic. I love the score for this film! Even better, Leonard found a way to make the music interactive. For a film. It’s terrific.
We talk about his other projects too, like Retro City Rampage (using the moniker Freaky DNA), and a well-received documentary called The Corporation.
On top of all that, Leonard runs the School of Video Game Audio. He’s mentored hundreds of people around the globe through that endeavor.
