Level 27: Mark Griskey (LucasArts, Disney) and POTW Andrew Gades
Before we get into the skinny of the show, remember to tune into the Google Hang for all patrons Saturday night with Jason Graves, Lennie Moore and Austin Wintory! It starts at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET, and patrons will receive a message with a link shortly before that time. Looking forward to seeing you there!
This week’s show features composer Mark Griskey. He’s composed for movie trailers, TV and games for years. He’ll talk about the pros and cons of being freelance vs. working at a game studio, and you’ll hear music from all aspects of his career, including a canceled Sam & Max game from LucasArts. In fact, that’s where Mark’s first job was, and how he got it is quite the story. Our Patron of the Week is Andrew Gades. Andrew was a student of mine when I was teaching sophomore-level music theory as a graduate student. More than a decade later, he’s the Assistant Professor of Music at The College of Idaho, and he’s preparing to teach a class there soon called Music, Movies & Video Games.
Here’s his list; we talked about the first two:
1. Main Theme – Myst III: Exile by Jack Wall2. “Sailing on the Wind” from Flower by Vincent Diamante3. “The Road Most Traveled” from The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind by Jeremy Soule
4. “Nocturne of Shadow” from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time by Koji Kondo
5. The entire soundtrack for BioShock Infinite by Garry Schyman (we put AD in the show)
